His Royal Highness Prince Joachim visits Maersk Vessel Salalah
*****
Secretary for the Environment of HKSAR to attend the Fuel Switch Initiative
*****
23 November 2010
10.30-11.45am
BACKGROUND:
On 5 September 2010, Maersk Line vessels began using low-sulphur fuel while at berth in Hong Kong. Local public policy think tank, Civic Exchange, have been working closely with Maersk Line since 2008 to carry through the initiative. The voluntary Fuel Switch scheme is the first of its kind in Asia and is expected to reduce Maersk Line’s emissions of unhealthy sulphur oxides (SOx) and particles by at least 80%.
On 23 November 2010, His Royal Highness (HRH) Prince Joachim of Denmark will visit Maersk vessel Salalah while it is at berth in Hong Kong. HRH will during his visit perform the actual Fuel Switch on Salalah Maersk and go on a guided tour of the vessel.
